1950’S Advertisements!

I wanted to see what ads looked like in the 1950’s to get retro ideas for a website and I was surprised by the humor and content of the ads from the 40’s-60’s.  A baby or a dentist would never be used to advertise cigarettes now, because we understand the harmful effects of smoking more now- and because there are numerous groups and organizations that would have a major conniption and probably sue the company.  1950’s humor was apparently very different, very bold, and very sexist;  these days people have to be so sensitive about what they can use and say in advertising, which was not so much the case back in the fabulous 50’s!

About Rockabelle Bombshell

I am a single mom of a 13 yr old boy and 6 yr old girl. I love DIY projects of all types, and everything Rockabilly! I love the Icons of the 50's, as well as classic cars, pinups, retro appliances and decor, and victorian gothic furniture. I think of myself as a tattooed 1950's transplant... definitely born in the wrong era! I love thrifting and "junking"- I rarely see junk, I see things for their possibilities! I started this blog to document my DIY adventures as I attempt to upcycle and recreate my furniture and home decor, add a Rockabilly touch to as much clothing as I can, make life fun for my kids, and share my love of Rockabilly!

  2. I looked over the advertisements on your Blog. What a hoot! What a society/culture we are, have been, and will be. It is all outrageously expressed in our advertising.

    • It’s so hard to tell with all the great graphics and photo altering technology, which is why I would definitely look into it if it were something I was collecting, as far as fun retro decorating I would also prefer the real deal, but some that aren’t and still appear to be are fun for that purpose! Thank you for sharing the link, maybe it will lead me to more info on my lighted coke sign:)
